Many successful models for IR exist. However, there is still a lack of a unified theoretical framework able to encompass the various user-oriented challenges identified in IR, e.g. how to handle context, interaction, diversity, and novelty. van Rijsbergen stated that the quantum probability framework can be used to express the various geometrical, probabilistic and logical IR models within a unified framework. In this talk, I will shortly present the probabilistic framework developed for quantum physics, before introducing different examples (information retrieval, language models and extractive summarization) of how this formalism can be leveraged.
